Capital

The notion of ‘capital’ refers either to the financialdimension of accumulated savings or borrowed resources or to the physical dimension of capital goods (producers' goods).

The notion of human capital is used to describe the stock of skills and knowledge required to perform labour in a bid to generate economic value.

The capital required when setting up a company will vary depending on the chosen type of company (available in French and Dutch) and may take the form of cash or be a contribution in kind.

For instance, a minimum capital of €18,550 is required to set up a Belgian private limited company, or SPRL/BVBA, whereas shareholders establishing a public limited company, or SA/NV must undertake to provide share capital totalling at least €61,500.
