Business tourism: Brussels is Europe's number 1 city for congresses
Every year the UIA (Union of International Associations) produces a list of top international meeting cities. The list is based on the number of meetings and congresses organised by international organisations in the cities and countries in question.
In 2009, Brussels took second place behind Singapore. That makes Brussels the world number two and the European number one in business and congress tourism. In the previous five years, Brussels was always in the top three, but this is its first time as the leading European city.
Belgium took fifth place in the world and third in Europe.
