New portal for re-usable public sector information

date: 06 January 2012

The Belgian Federal Agency for Administrative Simplification (ASA/DAV) recently deployed a Public Sector Information portalExternal link where users can find a wide range of information and data which has been issued by the Belgian federal public services and which can be re-used by third parties.

The information portal makes public sector information more widely usable and accessible. On the site, re-usable information is organised into virtual file cards providing:

  • a description of available information
  • conditions governing re-use
  • the name of the administration
  • contact details

The portal is a response to European Directive 2003/98 of 17 November 2003 on the re-use of public sector information, which calls on the EU Member States to implement "practical arrangements to help re-users in their search for documents available for re-use, such as asset lists, accessible preferably online, of main documents and portal sites that are linked to decentralised asset lists".
