Registering your business as an employer

Any enterprise wishing to employ staff in Belgium must register as an employer with the National Social Security Office (NSSO).

If you are hiring one or several workers for the first time, these are the steps to take at the NSSO:

  • Identify yourself as an employer on the online service WIDE (FR): you will receive the NSSO number that identifies you as an employer
  • Make an immediate employment declaration on the online service DIMONA when hiring your first employee
  • Make a quarterly multifunctional declaration with the online service DmfA. In addition, you have to submit a quarterly multifunctional declaration to the NSSO, which specifies the work and remuneration of all your employees.

These formalities are free of charge if you complete them yourself. A fee is charged, if you do it via accredited business counters.
